Equine Cosmetology

Check it out! I was reading in ‘The Fashion Book’ by Phaidon Press Limited, if you want to check them out go to www.phaidon.com. They carry many nice collectors books with REALLY awesome images. Anyways, Phaidon taught me that Elizabeth Arden’s real name was Florence Nightingale Graham, sound familiar? I thought so too. Florence Nightingale (not Graham, the other one) is known for introducing nursing as a ‘respectable’ profession for women. She did all this in the 1850’s and 60’s, by the way. Florence Nightingale Graham was the lady with an interest in horses and cosmetics which she SOMEHOW connected. Women and horses are APPARENTLY the same, ‘legs, head, and backside’. Her Eight Hour cream she is quoted as saying ‘you must try this, I use it on my horses’. Anyways, the ‘Elizabeth Arden’ cosmetic name is partially inspired by Tennyson’s poem ‘Enoch Arden’ (which APPARENTLY inspired Florence, but the poem is really long and boring). Yeah, so I read the whole poem looking for some clue why Florence was inspired to go with the name Arden, yeah . . . I read the WHOLE poem. Boring . . . don’t read it, for your own sake, but do check out www.elizabetharden.com and send a free Arden Greentea scented postcard.
