Jean Paul Gaultier Couture Spring 2009
Seems everyday this week I catch myself oogling over Jean Paul’s Spring 2009 Couture line, drooling, and literally being completely unable to choose one favorite. It must be Spring Fever, because this is Love. I’m a total sucker for black and white; never out of trend, always classic, always polished, you can never go wrong.
Jean Paul Gualtier, the man who brought Madonna’s gold cone-bra out to play for her ‘Blonde Ambition Tour’, and again made an impression in her ‘Confessions Tour’ wardrobe, as well as working with Kylie Minogue for her ‘KYLIEX2008′ Tour, has made his mark on architectural, lingerie inspired design. His style and taste in both runway production and couture design has given him great criticism and praise, yet as I look at his Klaus Nomi inspired Spring 2009 line not one word of criticism finds itself slipping from my lips. I look over the sharp edges, arched lines, elongated stripes, asymmetry, and contrast in color and am both transfixed and inspired by what I see. Reviewing his work this season is like seeing an M C Escher print or a Jackson Pollock and feeling quite positive there is more to metaphorically interpret in each line.
If it can be said that clothing doesn’t hold such depth in artistic expression, well then it can be hugely argued as you see the images from Jean Paul’s line and realize there is so much to be seen, in each effort made, in every design.
